Looking to spend around 100 bucks on a new pair of speakers. I just got a Philips acoustic edge sound card.

The ACS56 Altec Lansing speakers seem to get pretty positive reviews. Are these a good purchase? or can I find something better for the money?

Would love to get the Klipsch ProMedia ones but Im on a budget.

Those are pretty much the best sub-$100 speakers.

If you could stretch your wallet about $40 or so more, you could really improve your sound with Boston Acoustic's BA-4800's. I have a set of these, and I think they are even better than the Klipsch. (But that's all subjective, of course.)

Looking at the Midiland 7100 5.1 speakers now. Can get them at buy.com for 138 after a $30 rebate. Seems like a pretty good deal. Any opinion on these? Well reviewed but hearing user comments is useful...

You can pick up the Altec ACS54 (4.1 setup) for $60 and overnight shipping at www.outpost.com.

They are the most powerful, but can't beat the price. I am happy with mine. :)

The ACS56 are quite likely the best speaker set in their price range. They are quite a bit better than the ACS54 and not much more. I also think they are better than the FPS2000 and also they are cheaper.

The BA-4800 are far better than either if you can afford those. I'm also in the camp that appreciates the BA-4800. They are a very neutral uncoloured sound. The ProMedias and even Altec and Creative to a lesser extent very much emphasize the bass...maybe you like, personal I'm of the opinion that neutral sound is the way to go, and there for I feel the BA-4800 are the best speakers you can buy short of the $600 VideoLogic Sirocco Crossfires.

I agree with Wingznut and Noriarki :) I saw the BA-4800s at a computer show, and they let me slip a CD I burned into the hooked up puter so I could listen.. what a treat :)

Decided to go with the BA4800 speakers. Not having any sound right now was driving me crazy and Outpost had them for 149.99 with free overnight shipping.

Looks like they are a good set for music listening, thanks for the help.
