Altec Lansing 641

I can get this and the logitech at roughly the same price (actually the altec comes out cheaper since I won't have to pay for shipping). I'm hoping this is the better speakers to get. I noticed the logitech's are THX certified and the Altec's are not. Does that really matter?

I'm assuming you're talking about the Logitech Z560's, and if so, I would rather purchase the Altec 641s. The Altec's have a nicer sharper clarity in the sound, where as the Logitech's also have very good sound, albeit very boomy from the bass. They're both excellent sets of speakers, I'm sure you'll be happy regardless of which set you choose. Also, take the controller into consideration. Logitech's is wired, and looks cheap compared to the rest of the system, in my opinion. The Altec remote seems a bit more stylish and is wireless (correct me if I'm wrong). Just giving you some things to consider - and since the Altec's are cheaper this should be a no-brainer 🙂.

I personally like the Altec Lansing more, but the logitech aint bad either. Review sites favor the Logitech over the Altec though.

I agree with Rhombuss there. The altec just seem to have more clarity without the exaggerated bass.

I chose the Altec's over the logitech's because they seem to be built better, and to sound better overall. My remote is wired though, but it looks pretty cool. There's also and aux input and headphone out. I've been very happy so far.

I went with the 641's for similiar reasons as above. The z560 is a great pair of gaming speakers, but I think 641 is a better all around choice.

The reviews I have read seem to show that the 641 sound better than the z560. I think it's personal choise as to what you like.

Honestly you really can't go wrong with either set, both the Logitech?s and Altec's are a good set of speakers. I've had the Logitech?s for a few weeks now and am pretty impressed with their sound. I haven't heard the 641's in detail yet but I have heard other high end Altec?s and in my opinion the Logitech?s have better sound quality. As far as overbearing bass I can see that being a potential problem if you aren't careful with sub placement. As long as you keep the sub, driver, and port away from corners and similar areas bass response should be just fine.
