Altec Lansing 5.1 Speaker System (6-Piece) OR Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System?

I've firmly resolved to choose one of these - budget-minded and promising potential.

ANy thoughts on which of the two would be better? What I really want is something with good LOUD sound that doesn't crackle and fall apart at high levels....any feedback would be very useful...thanks!

When the hell is Altec Lansing going to make a 651 set (or better)??? Or even 661. It's the only thing holding me back from buying new speakers.

Trust me, for less than $100 you want the Logitech Z640 5.1 Speaker... They are $70 at

NewEgg.

I would suggest that you go with a higher quality 4.1 setup as opposed to a 5.1 setup. The extra channel isn't going to offer you much more in terms of sound quality, especially since a good 4.1 setup can produce a nice crisp midrange. The Logitech Z-560's are about as good as you can get for that price range. I personally don't like any Altec Lansing speakers I have heard. My father tends to agree with me, and he owned a stereo equipment store which was renowned as having some of the most hi-fidelity equipment and the best listening room in all of North America by ____phile (Audiophile I think, was years ago) magazine.

i'm assuming you're not talking about getting the logitech z680's cuz those cost like $400 and if you, or anyone else, is gonna spend that much cash... get the promedias/klipsch 5.1's.
the logitechs z560s are good 4.1 speakers as noted above; and i'm not upgrading anytime soon because of them
but yeah, i also am not particularly fond of altec; as for logitechs i assume they sound about the same as the z540s with an extra center...
but i haven't seen/heard any altecs 5.1's; but codehack2 seems pretty pleased with his z640's you should go to the store and listen to do them, play with them, and find out which one you like best
good luck deciding

The Altec Lansing 621/641's are a cut above any PC speaker Altec Lansing has ever made before. You are talking about a speaker that may be better than the Klipsch's sound quality-wise while being around the same price point as the Logitech Z-560's (in the case of the 641's that is).
