I have had this set for 3 years and am generally happy with it for what we do. I watch more dvd's now and tried to connect another set of altecs, the small ones to the sub to get 4 speaker sound which worked okay on the dvd. However, this am when I disconnected and tidied up wires and reconnected, no sound from the small altecs and I'm getting a buzzing, static sound from the normal speakers which I placed right beside the monitor. I use a sb live value card.

Any simple things to try? I already used contact cleaner on the plugs and have to turn volumes down to get rid of the static.

can you explain this a little better? did you connect these "new" altecs to the sub? or to the soundcard??

i LOVE the 45.2's...and i know lots of people with them (i have the 45.1's myself) so i can probably help you figure this out if you explain it a little better for me.

I believe my spkrs are actually 45.1's & the xtra pair are 95's(6watt)

I connected the small altecs to the #2 input on the sub and powered it off the power bar. Worked fine for the dvd last nite.

I'm not as concerned with that now but rather to get the sound clean again. To top everything else off, my 6 week old 40gb hard drive quit. I complained about the poor packaging when it arrived from the store and think that had something to do with it. It isn't recognized in bios now and tried different cables and another hd(its fine) and as well when I removed it there's a sound of something loose inside!

Luckily I had a ghosted drive from this machine 6 weeks ago, before I upgraded from w98se to me.

Any tips on what to check for the cause of the line noise appreciated.

this is the part i'm still not getting :(

how are you plugging speakers into the INPUT of the sub and getting sound out?

beyond that, do you still have the static in the setup when the second pair of speakers are unplugged (i.e. when it's just set up like it used to be, before you connected the second pair?)

That is correct, I plugged the second set of spkrs into the input #2 on the sub, #1 has the sound card plug from the sblive. I did have sound on the dvd and checked with an mp3 as well!

The next day none and I have since disconnected the second set. Now I have the buzzing sound periodically.

well, let's see

1) have you tried switching which input the soundcard plugs into the sub ?

2) do you have a second computer w/ soundcard to test the speakers on?

3) do you have an old pair of speakers to test on the sound card?

1. yes I have and I have now replugged the 95's into the rear spkr outlet of the sblive & one of my problems is an intermittent power switch on them-causing me to think the output has disappeared but they do put out sound

2. yes I do but I think problem has gone away-no more problems since last nite

3. yes I have a third set which I will put on if the power switch cant be repaired

stupid me--I had neglected to set 4 spkr in the sblive setup which I now have!
