*sigh* i know it's hard to compare a 2.1 speaker system to a 4.1 but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try anyways......

as usual....i've been doing a lot of reading on the net about both these systems......... i've even read all the reviews on newegg.....
and from what i've read....the altec 621's have little or no drawbacks..........but the z560's on the other hand i've heard a lot about blown fuses...... subwoofers getting real hot and whatnot.......... and yet most of the audio posts on anandtech says that z560's are the best......... wuts the deal? would any of u recomment the 621 over the z560????? i'm attending college right now and i don't really have room for a 4.1........... but if the z560's are truly better than the altecs........... then i will go with ur words.......my trust is in all u pros out there!!!

thank u guys for taking ur time to read this newb's post

edit: btw i usually leave my pc on 24/7 and i play music when i sleep......and a couple hours during the day too for music and gaming

I was actually in the exact same situation as you were and I decided to go for the 621 cause they were cheaper and I have very little space in my dorm. I haven't tried the z560s, but I know that my 621 system is great and I have no regrets buying it. For just listening to music, 2.1 are fine. 4.1s are only needed for gaming and DVDs. Heck, if you really decide you want surround, you could always buy another Altec Lansing 621 system and have a kickass 4.2 surround system! :)

I have z560s and I love them. I hardly, however, use all four speakers. I prefer using just 2.1 for music and only use 4.1 with games.

They, however, sound fabulous in any situation.

I've got Z560's and I love em. I as well usually only use 2 speakers, even in a lot of games. Great bass, great music, and huge sound for games and movies and stuff.

I have the z560, no need to mention how great it is.

No matter what, i play my z560 with 4 speakers all the time.

i am in a situation that i am moving to a small house and have small room.

so i am seeking a good 2.1 speaker too(to work with my audigy2)

is altec lansing 621 the only choice out there?

no there are plenty of other good 2.1's out there
just look on newegg....... logitech, altec, klipsch are all very good IMHO

like darkknight mentioned.....klipsch promedia 2.1 THX's are VERY nice
but i don't want to spend that much money since i'm not an audiophile. i just wanted something in the upper regions

altec 621 - $110
klipsch promedia 2.1 THX - 170

The Altec Lansing 621 and The z560s would both be good for you. If you have the extra money I say you go for the z560s cause later you might wanna have 4.1. Also, even though I'm very happy with my 621s, the only problem is that it doesn't seem to put out as much bass as I like. My old Logitech z340s feel like they put out more than the 621s, even though the sub is less powerful. Of course, the bass sounds much better on the 621s. Bass is considered to be a strength of the Logitech series, so if you really like alot of bass (if u wanna ur floor to shake), go with the logitechs. But if earthshaking bass isn't important and you wanna save some money, go for the 621s. You'll be happy with both.

like Night718 said, i don't want to spend a 2.1 speaker as much as a 4.1 speaker. The Altec Lansing 621 i believe it is top of the line 2.1 and it costs almost as much as z560.(my local store is)

I am thinking about Logitech because it has good bass. Z560 has tons of bass pumping out when i need it.

so may be a z340, but how big is the sub? too big won't do.
if z540's sub is as big as z340 and if it is small, i would rather stick with 4.1. Because 4.1 seems be a better investment.

haven't seen either z340 and z540 myself before.

The Z340/540's definately aren't as powerful as the 560's, but for a small room I'd say they're just fine. What you could do is just use your 560's with only two speakers. Unless it's still too big. The 340/540's sub is smaller than 560's, but not by a huge amount.

maybe the altec lansing 221 are good for you. They have about the same power as the z340s, but i think the sub is smaller. The Altec lansing AVS300s are also small. All 3 systems are under $50.
