Alt-tabbing in and out of a game

whenever I alt-tab out of World of Warcraft, my system seems to slow down a ton. I have the same res and refresh as my windows settings in the game.
Is there anything that could speed this up? a tweak or something? or just more ram?

I have a p4 3.0 HT with 512 pc3200.

the game is still running and using all the resources it needs, even if it is not showing on your screen

more ram will help as everyone has mentioned

Not if the game is using 99% of the CPU.

Unlikely, unless the thread-scheduling priority settings of Windows have been monkeyed with. The default is to give three times the priority to the foreground process. If he's doing much of anything in the foreground, the game won't get 99% (and that's even if RAM is not an issue, which it probably is).
