one of the first things I would do is upgrade the video card driver. You are on 10.3 and 10.5 was released a few days ago.

I have the same video card as you but I have a core i7 860. I have no issues with alt+tabbing and going back into the game.

Also, does it happen on ALL games? Or just a few games?

I have a very similar set up and do not have that issue. I'm on Vista64 with Cat 10.3.

One somewhat odd thing, if I Alt+Tab out of some games and don't have another window open, I cannot exit the game at all. But if I use the Windows key I can get out and back in.

Sometimes the screen will be blank when I return to a game, but it'll make it back in if I just give it a few seconds.

Isn't using Win XP on an ssd against the rules :p

I don't think XP handles switching out full screen as well as Vista/Win 7 so I'm gonna blame it on that, but are you able to hit alt-enter to go into windowed mode and back without problems? I remember having to do that before alt-tabbing in some games that weren't very friendly with losing focus.

Thanks for some response.I only have 2 games installed atm.One appears not to have the problem, but the other does. The one that does is a much more intensive game, just to note.

Never,at any time when i had my previous 4850,was this a problem. But,i have made other alterations to the os and did not have the ssd at that time either.Like mentioned,at times i would just have to wait a tad then be back in.I have tried waiting as long as 2 minutes, lol,to get back in this time around.I will try leaving a window open. The main reason i like to come back out is that it's an easy way to set process priorities and core affinity.

If i still can't cure it i reckon i will try out the newest drivers.I will try some things like leaving adjustments alone in game too.

Yea,xp is more work to make it ssd friendly and KEEP it that way.Bench tests in both os show me xp is a little worse at writes but hangs with read speeds.Still works pretty well overall, just a hassle.:)I am still toying around with win7,to maybe switch over.I'm one of those that would still be on win2k if it was even remotly secure anymore, lol.

There are some (usually old; e.g. FF VII) games that just don't handle alt-tabbing well, if you tested it only for two games and it worked for one, chances are good that it's just the game.

And really no reason to clinge to XP, Win7 is superior in almost every possible way, have been using the RTM since september last year and haven't had any problems. Though I don't think it'd fix that problem
