Also Tired of Flaming in Video

The seemingly endless cycle of flaming over posts asking for tips on how to RMA after voiding the warranty is getting repetitivie/old quickly. While the "ethics" in this issue are worthy of discussion, it frankly seems we can not do so in a mature way. Too often these are polluted with rampant flaming/rank personal insults. Other threads indicates the level of personal annoyance generated.

My suggestion: The description given for the Video Forums is "Discussion about Video Products " Perhaps we should amend that to say "Discussion about Video Products - Posts regarding the RMA of video cards after the warranty has been voided are not allowed". Or something to that effect (some of you wordsmiths can prolly write it better). I think that would state our policy against this practice and allow us to avoid the repetitive flaming that pops up with these kinds of post.

Just a humble suggestion 🙂

(puts on flame suit and runs away)

This "seemingly endless cycle" has been about 3 days. Yes, this comes up from time to time, and yes, discussions get heated (just like they do about many other topics -- do we ban "ATI versus NVIDIA" threads, too? How about threads discussing "SM2.0 versus SM3.0"?). But I don't think the solution here is to disallow discussion about the issue.

Actually it's been going on for months. I saw a rant about this by DAPUNISHER quite some time ago.

I agree, something needs to be done about the video forum. The mods should be sending out warnings to these people, and if they don't comply they should be banned.

I guess our difference is here is that I see discussions of RMAing/violating warranties as similar to warez. That is, the conduct is illegal/unethical.

The flame inspiring topics you mention are not.

But I understand, and to a degree, share your reluctance to disallow discussions of an issue. And it may not even be practical.

enforce the forum's own rules against making PERSONAL attacks. 😉
