ALSA drivers for SB Live or default Linux kernel drivers?

I was just wondering whether or not it would be worth moving from the default SB Live! drivers in the Linux kernel (2.4.2) to the ALSA SB Live! drivers, or if I should just keep using these. I realize that the ALSAdrivers + ALSA output would probably be better, but what about in standard OSS apps? (I'm asking because while playing some of my dvd's with xine the sound will mess up just a little when a "bassy" sound plays, like an explosion or such. I'm thinking maybe the ALSA drivers might fix this?)

anybody? I know it's a little techie even for this board. I might just hop on over to a linux news group or forum and poke around there.

Alsa has compatability with OSS stuff through a extra module or two. I've done this before with a Yamaha card. the latests SB Live! drivers are almost always at opensource.creative.com as I recall. I would tend to use the kernel ones or the ones from there
