I used to eat really hot wings when a good buddy of mine used to incrementally train me to handle successively hotter and hotter wings. I was his pet project and I was coming along quite nicely much to my surprise. Well, we quit for quite awhile since he went to grad school across the country but now i'm getting back into it.

Here's a site with some super hot offerings ...

Some of the names are hilarious!

I've tried Dave's Insanity Sauce in minute amounts and it was Hell! It used to be the hottest around but now it's probably been eclipsed by some of the pure extracts of up to 1,000,000 Scoville units! That's just nuts.

Anyone here does the hot wings thing?

I trained myself up, and now I have a pretty high tolerance for hot food. I can fire it up with the "Wall" wings at my local wings place. They take a good standard hot wing sauce and grind up fresh habenero peppers, and cook it enough to let all the heat and flavor mix. The flavor of those wings is great. They have a great fresh pepper flavor, but they are quite hot. The first one I ever ate was like consuming fire. I was in pain for a half hour. Since then I've built my tolerance. Last summer I ate 16 of them without anything else to eat or drink in order to get on the "Wall of Flame". I stay away from the wall wings these days. I stick to a wing sauce that has a lot of black pepper in it. It takes some getting used to as the sauce is tangy, hot, and a little bitter, but once you develop a taste for it, it is delicious.

The thing is that even though you've lost some of your hot food skills since you quite training, you can rebuild them so much more quickly now. Your mouth will become accustom to the heat much more readily. Personally I like the "high" you get from eating hot food. The endorphine rush is great.

If you are ever in South Bend, IN, let me know. I'll take you to Wing's, Etc, for the best wings in the area.

I do love wings, although my stomach prefers that I keep them in the mild/hot range instead of really hot.

When we go to Jamaica, nothing beats sitting on the beach, with a frozen drink, eating some extremely delicious jerk chicken hot off the grill. You are sweating from the chicken, but it is so damn good, you just cant stop eating.

The key is to realize that the pain is only in your mind. When I get in over my head with hot food, I tend to leave my mind and imagine a high mountain lake. Whatever you do, don't think of the words "searing flesh".

If i'm ever in South Bend i'm in there.

I've got my favorite hot wing story. My buddy and I went to one of our wing places and we were pretty much closing the joint up. Last customers on the floor and it was last call for the kitchen. He orders a dozen wings requesting the hottest wings possible. The wait staff was pretty new to us since we were semi-regulars (we rotated wing places) and she took our order and went back to the kitchen. She came back a minute later and told us that they would have to *charge* him another 50 cents for the extra hot wings in lieu of the extra hot sauce/condiments used.

We looked at each other funny and my buddy said "Fine." When she left we made the usual comments befitting this situation. Stuff like "It better be darn hot." and "What?! An extra charge for the hot sauce?"

In any case, when the wings came out the kitchen staff came out too to watch my buddy eat his wings. They were covered in brown goop and they were extremely hot. They came out to watch this spectacle thinking that he was gonna die and that they would have a good laugh or something like that.

Well, this was a personal challenge for my friend and he wolfed down all the wings. He did say that they were the hottest wings he has ever had. He likes it when his heart skips beats and when he feels like he's going to pass out. Strange, man. I usually just get a super runny nose, itchy scalp and a burning mouth. That's enough for me.

I just have to say that it's about the flavor. Something hot for hot's sake is not good enough. It has to taste good.

Absolutely. I've tried the hottest level of wings at BW3's, and they have no flavor, just heat. I ate them, but didn't enjoy them. I'm definitely after the flavor along with the heat.

Try Ass Blaster Hot Sauce. If you get any on your fingers I would highly recommend that you wash your hands before you use the bathroom.

Waivers. That's funny ... I don't think that in the grand scheme of things a waiver would necessarily hold up in court. I'm not a lawyer but from my observations a waiver isn't the end all or be all in the limitation of liability. Liability is to be determined fully in court ... not by you signing some piece of paper.

i'm gonna try to do the 25 fire in the hole wings at pluckers before i leave austin. i usually get tenders, which are supposed to be hotter since they hold a lot more sauce.

The place where I do my laundry serve these "Release Form Wings" where you sign a release form before you can eat. If you eat all of them, they put your name up on a plaque on the wall and you get a t-shirt. The back of the t-shirt says: "I tossed the devil's salad." :)

I did them twice. Each time, I was sweating bullets and shaking from the pain. It was horrible.

Signing some piece of paper? It sure does hold up.
