I believe older units could do this but this has since been disabled. My guess is they are taking a loss on the actual units so they have to force you to get the service. Like a cell phone or something.Originally posted by: Sukhoi

RossMAN, your link didn't work for me... But I have several Maxtor 120 gig 7200 rpm hard drives in my TiVo's, and they run fine. Some people have said 5400 rpm drives run cooler, but my temps are the same either way.
