ok... i've read up on the DFI LanParty NF4 SLI solution.. though my brand-loyalty is leaning me towards an A8N (i have no real interest in overclocking at this point or the DFI would win hands down)

so my question is.. lets say i go with this particular PC...

cpu: AMD Athlon 64 939 3200+ BI process
ram: (2) Crucial Ballistix 184-Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200
board: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
gpu: eVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6800GT
audio: PCI CreLab Audigy ES
hdd1: Western Digital Raptor 36GB (OS/VitalApps drive)
hdd2: Maxtor 200GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
cd/dvd: 16x LiteOn DVD-Rom
burner: Sony DRU710A CD/DVD Burner

future plan to add another GF 6800GT to the machine (probably late this year)

now.. the real question .... the case i'm using has a 350 watt power supply in it.. by recommendation, i'm heavily considering a Fortran PS but would like to, if possible, use one that I have ready access to. ... The PC i'm currently using has a Thermaltake Silent PurePower 480W PS in it and the stats can be found at :

http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower/W001011.htm
(im not sure which stats you guys would want... post and let me know and i'll fetch them for you if you'd like...)

will this PS be sufficient? if possible, i'd really rather not buy another one if i dont *need* it (need being i would rather not have components in this PC frying or blowing up)

A Thermaltake 480w would be just fine. You might need a larger one when adding another video card, but I haven't really read up on SLI power requirements much as I have no interest in it.

The thermaltake should be able to handle the one 6800gt. I dont know about the second because the max amps on the 12v rail is 18 and to me thats seems a little low.

I don't think you'll be able to get away with only 18amps on the 12v rail with that rig, but you could try it and see if its stable before investing in another power supply.

alright.. thats the exact response i was looking for. having just plopped ~$1400 on this, i'd like to not add any more big ticket items to the cost *right now*... i have no problem picking up a PS later this year when i add the 2nd card
