dot5hosting has let my site got down for a few days now, I can't find a human to talk to, and now their tech support side of their site is down

I need a cheap hosting company with 150-300MB worth of space, not much bandwidth, FP server extensions, ability to create subdomains with their own owners and POP3 email accounts.

Suggestions?

Try googling 'dot5hosting', and note all the negative reviews.

Why did you pick them in the first place??

I got to their support section and try to login and get this: "Egad, we're reporting this error!"

lol...

Actually my site has been up and running for 2 years without a problem.

Noting all the reviews on google I better find a new host.

Any suggestions? I'm looking for 150-300MB, ability to add subdomains, owners of those subdomains and POP3 email accounts, not much bandwidth/month, FP server extensions...

I was getting a good deal at around $5/month

Going back to HostWay for $30/mo, LOL.

Any decent web host will offer to move all your existing sites, emails and databases for free (or a small fee).

There are a few other web hosts I would consider:

There are a few other web hosts I would consider:
  • ThrillHost.com - I am a former customer just before midPhase bought them out. There are about 2 dozen current ThrillHost customers here and most of them seem happy considering they're paying $10/mo for 3GB/30GB (an old Hot Deal which is now expired). If you sign up with ThrillHost.com REQUEST that your account NOT be placed on a Burst/Nocster server.
  • Eurofficial.com - used to be "the talk of the town" on WHT, not sure what happened to all the buzz. There is a Hot Deal offering 50% off any Eurofficial resellers plan, PM me with your e-mail address if you are interested.
  • BlueWho.com - is probably the most reputable web host in this list, they're like a mini-HTTPme.com You're not going to get as many resources as the other web hosts but they run a very solid operation, great tech support, solid reliability and uptime.
  • P4Host.com - I've read a few good reviews on WHT but have no personal experience with them. It would be nice if some AT'ers could sign up for P4Host and let the rest of us know how they rate.
  • UltraUnix.net - I've saved the best Hot Deal for last.
They offer 2.5GB disk space, 25GB bandwidth, resellers account for $13.99/mo with $15 setup fee (which is new to me, I have e-mailed their sales to clarify this isn't a typo). There is no committment or obligation, month to month. If you pre-pay for 10 months you get 2 months for free. It's always a good idea to use a web host for a few months before making the plunge to pre-pay for 1 year.
Server specs: Dual XEON, 2GB DDR RAM, 2x36GB SCSI Hard Drives (most web hosts use P4 with IDE).
Data center: CyberWurx in Atlanta, GA which is reputable, reliable, fast with great uptime.
If you'd like to test the server speed here is a 15MB speed test file
Last but not least you get Fantastico auto installer scripts, so if you or your clients want to install forum software, pichosting, a blog or web site portal you can do it without about 3 clicks of your mouse.

I hope that information helps you choose a new provider. If you're not going to use more than 1GB/15GB I would definitely sign up with BlueWho.com, otherwise go with UU.[/quote]

these are Rossmans recommendations to me when i posted a similar thread.

good luck, UU looks pretty good to me.

I'll fill in for rossman, he and I have been going back and forth regarding this very topic.

So, yes, everything PlatinumGold mention is good. You can't beat UU.net's offer.
I spoke with the owner and he's a pretty cool guy. He'll even move your accounts for you.
I'm currently with Dathorn.com and the last few months have been flaky.
Their main website was lost because some tech accidently formatted the drive and there were attacks
at their DC - The Planet.

So, it's time for me to move on and once I'm finalize on my end, I WILL be moving to UU.net.

If you dont want a reseller account, try Dixiesys. They were my second host
after your-site.com, but your-site.com only offers 50MB then you have to pay extra for more space. It might come
out the same. Both companies were pretty good with tech support.

Yep, I think any current AddAction.net customer can get it.

Let me e-mail their sales and ask how you should go about upgrading and I'll post the reply here.

Rossman's deals end threads better than Nick's Ti 4200 :p
(thread bookmarked, as Rossman-approved hosting could come in handy)

Congrats but I'll believe it when I see it ;)

dathorn is still a solid choice. Not every web host is perfect.

KK, Rufio and any other current AddAction.net customer,

I just received a reply from AddAction.net sales stating here's how to upgrade your existing account.

Send an e-mail to billing@addaction.net with your account details (domain and real name) requesting an upgrade to their $49.90/yr plan. As long as you remain a customer in good standing, your account will renew at $49.90/yr for as long as you're a customer.

Also if you signed up for AddAction.net a while ago, they upgraded "The Plan" bandwidth from 10GB to 20GB a few months ago. In your e-mail to billing ask them to confirm that your bandwidth has been adjusted to 20GB as well.
