Alright, I'm getting tired of this

I had it going...let's see...maybe for 10 minutes? It's fun to look at the graphics, but I can't do it forever. ^^

EDIT: Aha! I just was running it again, and, sure enough, it locked up! When it came back, the framerates were lower and my card was running cooler. I quickly went to download a program to check my clock speeds to see if they were downclocked, and after downloading RivaTuner, sure enough, they were! The core is only at 300 MHz instead of the normal 500 MHz. So, the card overheated and underclocked itself, I guess.

Now, how am I supposed to try to clean this thing?

Or should I just replace the HSF?

Thank you, all!

what a/v / firewall are you running? as pointed earlier nav seems to wreak havoc with game anymore. i switche to antivir about a year ago and haven't looked back since. also have you used prime95 to max the cpu to test for power issues?

🙂

Well, you can try just cleaning it and applying some artic silver but iirc the stock fan is pretty cheesy, at least on the evgas I've seen.

I know the vf700 did the trick in my buddies machine.

Hmmm...I seem to have some other problem now. I just did a fresh restart, but RivaTuner is still seeing my 6600GT with a 300 MHz core. I really don't know if it is the video card underclocking itself anymore, and I have no idea why it's not 500 MHz, or why RivaTuner can't see it as 500 MHZ...

I'm not familiar with riva tuner, I use the coolbits registry hack. I have a drop down menu under "clock frequency"; one for 2D and one for 3D.

Heh, yeah. Anyway, I figured it out, and the card is indeed running at 500 MHz core during 3D. However, I am no longer entirely sure it underclocks itself when I lock up because everytime it has locked up recently, it has crashed, too, so I haven't been able to check the core frequency. However, since it's cooler now, I'm having an even harder time trying to get it to lock up. I guess I'll try tomorrow when it's warm again. Alright, cool. At least I think I've figured out the problem for sure.

Thanks, everyone. I'll see what my card actually does during a lock up tomorrow.
