Alright, I need to plan a bachelor party.

I need ideas as well as guidelines as I have no idea wtf I'm doing. I was thinking about a day of golf, then hitting up the bars (pub crawl style) but it seems like everyone is doing that. I'd like to do something unique, but don't want to spend a whole lot of $$$ (I just bought a townhouse). Also, is it customary to get everyone who attends to chip in, or am I suppose to pay for this all?

Yes, it's expected everyone will chip in.

I recently went to a great bachelor party. We had a 14-passenger van to ferry us around, enabling all-day drinking. We had scheduled stops at a go-kart track, pizza place, and casino, then back home for girl-on-girl stripper action. It was a great day. We each paid $125.

All you need it a place to stay, lots of beer, and a stripper in a birthday cake.

All guys want is booze and naked woman. Based it on that, If you go to a strip club, everyone will pay their own cover and tip with their own money, and buy their own beers.

It really depends on what everyone likes to do. For my bachelor party, we had a geekfest: a trip to a top-notch BBQ restaurant for all sorts of smoked meats followed by a few hours of freeplay pinball and arcade games at a nearby place called the Pinball Parlour, topped off with a few hours of drunken Counterstrike at one of those LAN-gaming joints.

A unique party, but it's not for everyone...

Usually either everyone chips in or the best man covers the groom and everyone else covers themselves.

I had one for my cousin a year or 2 ago, and had a bunch of activities. I was trying to include a wide range of things to appeal to everyone, trying to get older and younger people involved, etc.

First I gave him a list of things to have packed for the start of the day, just to throw him off and keep him guessing.

Rented a mini-van, picked him up, and a bunch of us met at a golf course to play 9 holes. Everyone was responsible for their own ticket.

Then drove back to my house where a bunch of other people were waiting. Had a big cookout, basketball, football, etc. Had a local sub shop and pizza place supply and deliver the food.

To help fund the event, and get some cash for my cousin for his honeymoon, I bought a crapload of random gifts. Various inexpensive tool kits, cheap CD players, Playboy DVDs, a 'mystery cooler' filled with steak, chicken, beer, etc.... I then sold raffle tickets at the cookout. At the end of the day, we picked tickets and the winners chose their prizes. It was a load of fun, and we made a bunch of cash.

After that we hit the bars, etc.

Next day we went to a baseball game. That was probably the worst part of the deal - everyone was so hung over, it wasn't as much fun as it could have been.

Good luck!

From the way I see it, the groom's closest friends should pay for a certain percentage of the overall expenses, which is how the bachelor party I went to this past weekend worked out.

Some tips based on experience:

-The bachelor doesn't pay for anything. The groomsmen will probably be more than happy to split the cost of his activities.

-As the planner/coordinator, you need to stay "under control" for most of the night. There is nothing worse than the guy who throws the party getting so wasted that he can't take care of the party.

-Make sure you have transportation set up for the ride home. This doesn't necessarily have to cover everybody, but at a minimum you should be responsible for getting the bachelor back home safely.

-Talk to the other groomsmen about your ideas. They can give some insight as to what to do.

-Make sure you talk to all his friends about the guest list. This is your responsibility and you don't want to leave anyone out.

wow some of you guys sound very VERY boring lol :p

i went to a bachelor party 2 weekends ago. first we met up at the hotel at around 8pm to do some pre-gaming. there were 5 of us. we then got in our 14 person limo (yes we had plenty of room) around 10pm where we proceeded to get even more drunk in the limo, drinking champaign and tequilla. for about an hour we drove around DC (adams morgan and georgetown) where it was so crowded but it was cool because we were popping corks out of the sunroof and getting a lot of attention.

we ended up at a strip club where we proceeded to stay for about 50-60 mins, drinking and seeing mad titties, and making all the attention of the place go onto our bachelor. after that place, we went to yet another strip club that was somewhat close by where we had another blast. finally it was about 2:30 and we ended up going to Dream night club in our limo where they let us in for free i guess because they saw the limo, and because it was closing soon heh.

we ended up getting home at 4am. it was a GREAT night and we had a blast. the bachelor said it was the greatest night he's had out w/the guys.

really, do something wild and you will remember it much more than something that is more low-key and something you do every day.

Here's a great idea (and the one I'm gonna do when I have to plan one). It might be a bit expensive though.

Get a flight to Vegas. Maybe do it standby or something so it's as cheap as possible. Leave in the late morning/early afternoon. Drinks + strippers + gambling in Vegas, then go back to the airport at 5 am the next day and fly home. No need for a hotel that way :)
