My friends computer I cannot manage to get it to work, it always crashes when ide transfers, playing game, just doing crap in windows... I have tried several operating systems to avail. He got a new hard drive cause the other one crapped out on him, though it might be the ram so I tred some new sticks.. didnt work. The only thing I can think of is the mobo but I cant do anything about it cause I dont have another one to test everything out. Is there a program that will test different parts of a motherboard? or if anyone else has an idea I should sure use it cause I am out of them.

PSU can cause a lot of problems, and never just settle for the drivers that windows installs. Even the newest version of windows will likely have outdated drivers or even just microsoft's generic driver for the device. I always reinstall the newest drivers from the manufacterers website... so i would suggest install the newer drivers anyway, then at leat you can discount drivers. good luck...

so a psu would cause hard lockups' I guess that would answer alot of stuff cause it seems to lock up more when the hd and cdrom are working at the same time. I dont carea bout the via's cause they didnt do anyhting in win98/me/2k or the last time I installed winxp

LoL, you sound like an expert. Why did you come here and ask if you already know more than everyone else? No point in trying something as easy as installing the latest 4in1 drivers.

well I installed the 4 in 1's and they didnt do a thing, even thou I should have done it in the first place. Would a crappy psu acuse the system to lock up or reset due to lack of power?
