Alright, I cannot handle the lag I get anymore!

With the money that was put into my computer, it is a huge waste to not be able to play my favorite game, battle field 2, without lag. Ocasionally I will have a decent ping on there (a decent ping for me is anything under 100) But then it will usually just skyrocket to like 500 or 700. I have a wireless connection. I use a Linksys adapter that connects to a router through one wall. The router is about ~20 feet away through this wall. It says that I am getting 54 Mbps. Is this bad? Or is my wireless connection the culprit? There is also one other computer connecting to this router in another room.
Will I get a much better connection if I use a wired connection, instead of a wireless?
THANKS!

you'll never know until you try.

It "shouldn't" provide much of a difference for your game, but it "can"

What's the signal strength of your connection? Did you try changing channels on the router? Are there any wireless phones in the house?

I prefer wired connections and never had decent reliability playing games over wireless.

Sounds like a good candidate for a "Killer" NIC. ;)

Seriously, as spidey07 notes, just try a hard wired connection and see if that fixes your problem. There's really no way to predict the results. It's tough to see how a 20-ft WiFi connection could cause 700ms pings on its own.

I just hooked up some RJ-45 cable, and so far so good. I played for awhile, and the ping did not go above 30. I think the wired connection made the difference. Thanks guys.
