If you can grab 3inches of fat, your a bit too fat imo.

Why do people make such a big deal out of the BMI?

If your whatever weight and have a flat hard stomach, it's simple, YOUR NOT FAT! If you train work out etc and you have 2-3inches of fat, well thats too much fat in general! It reflect on how much you can lift etc.

It's a simple scale for mostly sedatory office people. Not your built like a brick sh!t house athlete!

Most gym goers are have a bit of a gut anyway! And yes they'd be a bit on the large side on the BMI anyway...

25.4 I'm 5 10 177. I think the overweight/underweight estimations are for sedentary individuals. I'm active and have muscle dripping from every bone.

Hmmm.... maybe i should try typing it with my toes.

Anyway, I remember in high school health class (I paid attention), they said that a 5 foot person should weigh 100lbs, then you should add about 10lbs for every inch about that. So for me that means that I should be around 150lbs! Hey, look at that I am!

But applying that to some other people on this forum that seems like a wrong calculation. By that formula a person who is 6.2 should weigh 240lbs (100lbs + (14 inches x 10lbs)). :Q

Anyway further, this thread reminds me of the Penn and Teller: BullSh!t episode about BMI. That was a good episode. Let me see if its on YouTube...

this is a pretty bad calculator. it doesn't even take into consideration your gender and yes, it does matter. i searched and found a BMICalc widget for opera.

17.8, I'm 6'1" and ~135. A year ago I weighed 127ish.

However, these calculators are silly. While I am relatively skinny, I have little muscle and am probably not very fit.
