I know it's too late now, and been mentioned a couple of times already, but on that list, Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout is probably my favorite stout...

That said, also like Rogue Chocolate Stout, Ommegang Three Philosophers, All three of those offerings from Goose Island (Matilda, Pere Jaques, and Sofie), as well as Anchor Porter, and if I want something a little bit milder, Abita Turbodog is pretty good... especially with cajun food, nom nom nom!

That said, IPA's are awesome ... Dogfish Head 90 min IPA is fvckin awesome.

It's a shame there's no Three Floyds or Allagash offerings on the list (that I could find at least) ...

i tend to favor dark beers, looking at the list:

srs. bluemoon isnt bad but its too easy to find year round, and nothing special. i do like their harvest moon and winter moon brews, not outstanding beers, but affordable and quite decent.

dogfish head palo santo marron. delicious, with a bourbon-y bakground. fantastic beer. easily my favorite beer at this point in time. sip it, enjoy it...its something like 9 or 10% but its great.
-IF you see theobroma, get that, amazing drink.
- if you like pumpkin beers their punkin ale is tasty

anything from bells is good, at least what ive had, which is most of it.

breckenridges oatmeal is good, the vanilla has a *very* strong vanilla flavor if youre into that

three philosophers is good if you like belgian style ales.

rogue: chocolate stout, dead guy, mocha, somer orange honey

chimay anything, if you like belgians

sammy smiths oatmeal stout or taddy porter

youngs double chocolate

ayinger Celebrator: amazingly good dopple bock.

becks dark: like becks, but dark. i dont care for becks, but the becks dark is tasty.

paulaner salvatore dopple bock

spaten: optimator, dunkle, or oktoberfest

okocim porter: one of my favorite beers. great beverage.

guinness black lager: quite tasty and smooth

murphys irish red: great, great irish red.

belhaven scottish ale

xingu black

also, see my sig. i drink lots of beer, so i have a large list of beers ive had, some with descriptions/opinions, and the document has a second sheet that is a wishlist.
Do you eat anything with these?

Local liquor store had 6 packs of Paulaner Pilsner for $5 a 6-pack. I bought the last two and have 9 Left :)

Sales aside, I would go for a darker, heartier beer this time of year. Anchor makes a very good Porter,*** as does Samual Smith. Some people like flavored stouts, but I don't much go for those and thus don't have any recommendations.

I should add that I don't care for Porters much either, aftertaste.

You don't like IPAs or Porters? :disappoint:

Not all Porters have strong aftertastes. The Anchor is pretty clean on the back end.

Thinking about their porter makes me also remember how good Anchor Steam is. Have you had it before?

Deschutes The Stoic. When I first tried it, I was thrown back to my childhood. It tastes EXACTLY like what I imagined ale in medieval/fantasy games and movies tasted like. It was amazing.

Alesmith Speedway Stout. A blacker, more hearty and robust coffee stout you will not find.

North Coast Old Rasputin is always good, although not as good as Speedway Stout. Makes a great boilermaker with Glenlivet 12 year.

Sam Adams Imperial White. The best beer Sam Adams makes. Make sure to aerate it by pouring it into a glass, drinking from the bottle doesn't do it justice.

Widmer Pitch Black IPA is an interesting twist.

Edit: Based on some other posts, I'm going to have to get my hands on a Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout and try it.

Great Divide Yeti is about the toughest stout you can get, its also one of my favorites. Old Rasputin is not only a good stout, its also a bargain for its alcohol content.

You don't like Porters or IPA's? Thats like the two best classes of beer.

This is the order of strength and is a good way to gauge what you're buying:

Porters < Stout < Imperial Stout
Pale Ale < IPA < Double or Imperial IPA

If you don't like porters, then I wouldn't suggest getting a stout. If you don't like IPA's, you can try out Pale Ales as its a step down.

...and then some of my favorite microbreweries are

Founders
Bells
Stone
Great Divide
Dark Horse
Dogfish Head

Black IPA is a newish class, which is basically a Porter + IPA mix. Sublimely Righteous from Stone is damn good.

If you know what style of beer you like and a handful of microbreweries you favor, you can't go wrong.

First thing I noticed was Dark Horse wasn't on his list. I wonder how far their distribution is from Grand Rapids, MI? It's too bad a lot of the country hasn't tried their stuff, they're one of my top 5 breweries.

New Belgium Abbey Ale

Buy as many as you can fit in your house.

It isn't quite as good as the 'real thing' but it's very close... and a 6-pack costs about what one small bottle of actual belgian abbey dubbels cost.

Best beer that New Belgium makes if you ask me. Fat Tire is very overrated. I could drink nothing but these and never get bored with it.

New Belgium 1554 is the shit. Best beer they make bar none ;P
