ok I already ran a straight cat5 cable downstairs. I want to put a hub now downstairs also. Can I just make a short cross over and plug it into the router and hub downstair and get this going?

Thanks

Does your hub or router already have an uplink port that would preclude the need for a crossover cable? If not, getting a short crossover cable and a cat5 coupler would work. Not sure how much of a degredation you are goign to have but it should work.

cavingjan is somewhat right.
What I gather you are tring to get a computer running to a hub... to another hub... and then to another computer. Em I guessing right?

If one of the hubs has a uplink port it is not nessisary to have a xover cable. But if neither one of the hubs have a uplink port, you must use a Xover cable between the two hubs.
Otherwise the "switching" that the hub does internaly will be wrong when it gets to the other computer.

Good Luck
