I hate the alps touchpad on my studio 15. I didn't realize how much I hated it until I booted up my old Compaq V2000z with the synaptic touchpad. The difference is night and day. With the alps, I need to spend 3x the effort to do things. With the synaptic, moving feels painless, like butter.

I bought the compaq for 400(including shipping and tax) dollars in 2005. I bought the studio 15 for 650 dollars. Ow how we have regressed!

I just wish we had Lenovo/IBM style trackpoints in everything. Dell's version of the trackpoint is absolute crap. I've never tried HP's. Anyways, screw touchpads altogether!

I hate the point sticks.
Mouse>trackpad>keyboard>point stick.

I have both devices and have a choice on my Lenovo. The Trackpoint is much better for me than the touchpad - however, normally I use my VX Nano mouse . . . better than either. :) (For me - maybe not for you.) :)
