I am looking to replace my old basic Sony car cd player with This I thought I would ask the great minds of Anandtech what they thought before I bought.
Any coments or suggestions?

I have the Alpine 9811. Its awesome and SOUNDS like Heaven, but the only problems I have with it are the CD Text feature sucks and when I leave the key in the ignition and then turn the engine on, it sort of blanks out and I have to turn off the ignition, take out the key, and put it back in and start up again. Then all my radio settings have been lost.

But the mp3 reading feature is fast and smooth, tilt feature is nice, remote is cool, looks cool, has subwoofer setting, feels like top quality. Recommended.
 
its a good player

very basic for 280$, though... especially considering the tax and ship... for 280$ shipped you can get the higher end model 9813 from ikesound.com

i have the 9813... really, really good player. additionally, i have no such problems that bleeb mentioned...faulty install, perhaps?
 
I got it installed by Magnolia Hi Fi... some of the best installers.

I agree with LS20 though, get the higher models.
 
Thanks for all your help, I think I will go with the 9811 for the extra features, I don't need the extra power of the 9813. Is ikesound.com a reputable dealer?

yes, alot of people have had success with ikesound.com

when i ordered from them, i actually ordered the 9811 for 275$. however, I had not received the product even 2 weeks after ordering. I called them and they told me that it was not in stock, so they offered a free upgrade to the 9813 and a few days later it was there 🙂
 
i want the 7897 AWESOME. but yeah, alpine is very good.

only buy from crutchfield if you want quality service, their prices are out of this world.

ikesound is very good.
