Alpine Car CD Decks the best?

I've been looking around for a car CD deck that can play MP3s/WMFs. The Alpine CDA-9827 is a little pricey, but I'll get it if it's worth it. Does anyone have one or been in a car that has one? Is it really that much better than a lower priced Kenwood or Panasonic? Thanks!

Pioneer. My Pioneer DEH P5500 is excellent. Plays MP3 and WMA, but don't use WMA. I don't see how any deck can be better than mine, and it cost around $175 new. Clarion and JVC has offerings in that range as well, but don't know about quality.

hehe, i should sell you mine, i just ripped it out of my car (selling car) and have only had for a few months

Most in car deck comparisons are simply fanboy talk. It is all features and looks. The "best" one would be the one you like the most, or looks the best to you. Back when I was still in the business, Nakamichi made the best "sounding" head units. Although, so painfully ugly, I didn't even put on in my car for free.

my alpine is ugly as hell, but sounds awesome. bwuahaha, cant believe people still care about looks of appliances.

If you want the best, that'd be around Clarion, Nakamichi, Eclipse.

Otherwise, for price functionality and performance, go with Pioneer head units. They both have about the same amount of power at the same THD rating but the Pioneers are customizable beyond your wildest dreams. Get a 4600 model or greater and you will not be disappointed. Not to mention they are much more aesthetically pleasing than the alpines, IMHO.

It looks like most people think that Pioneer gives the most bang for the buck. I'll go and check out the Pioneers. I'm still not sure if there's really a big difference for CD decks around $200, between some of the big names. But I still want a good brand. Thanks for all your input.

I have had pioneers ever since I've been driving... never had one go bad and short of upgrading for another pioneer have never had a reason to get rid of them.

Please stay away from Kenwood....they range from mediocre to horrible, I've never seen a *good* Kenwood deck...

My personal fav is Pioneer (for the money), I've had nothing but good luck with them, and my current 5500MP was a steal considering the extras it has. Alpine is a great deck, don't get me wrong, but I prefer Pioneer's interface and features at similar prices 🙂

that site is shady dude. all their equipment must be stolen or something..

also they are not authorized dealer for any brand... your warranty is void.

a good friend of mine has a sweet kenwood deck and a kenwood music keg
i'm very impressed with it - it's solid and sound great (and doesn't miss a beat with 152db of ground pounding bass)
