And no, I don't mean AlphIVT, or whatever his name is...

Today is a milestone in the ISS (International Space Station) program. I was wondering what we all think about it. From the US, Canada, and even Dabie down in Oz land.

Big waste of money, or a launching pad to the future?

What do you think?

I'm not sure exactly what I think, because I have not really looked into the pros and cons. I can't give an educated opinion, so my opinion is "I don't know". :)

I do know what I feel, though.

I think it is very interesting and potentially beneficial, but I wish we would spend more money on trying to find a way to take care of our own environment instead of worrying about space stations.

Anyone have links or info they can post? I hate to be ignorant of such things.

lol, thought you were talking to me ;)

Anyways, if this ISS pulls through, all the nations will be more tightely interwoven, less chance of war.

I too feel a bit uncertain of the goals of the station but generally feel that our future is in space and the knowledge obtained is well worth the money. We spend $$ on far less tangible items.

Typcially, the benefits that will be derived from such an endeavor are far-reaching and contribute greatly to society in the future. In part, we are benefitting from the technological hurdles that were overcome in the Moon missions.

I hate to say this, but what happened? I was busy using today to waste another day of my life playing computer games, and I missed it.

I like the idea but somebody needs to state what the purpose is. Is it just to say that we can do it? There has to be some better justification for spending trillions of dollars.
