Alpha PEP66 - How much of a performance decrease in setting fan to blow?

What kind of performance decrease happens when you set the fan of the Alpha PEP66 to blow instead of suck? It won't fit on the motherboard in a "suck" fashion and still go with airflow of the case and PS fans, but if I set it to blow it can fit and the airflow of the Alpha's fan won't be fighting the case and PS fans.....anyone know if it's huge performance drop?

Most HSF's work better when they blow air instead of suck. You can try tweak3d.net, they had an article about the pep with a fan blowing and sucking air. I tried to get the link but couldnt find it, but that is where i read it. Just try the fan blowing aire and monitor your temps, if they get too high then go from there. But you should be fine thats a good HSF.

I run my Alpha PAL 6035 with it blowing air. I dont know why you think they are designed to use with sucking air, about 99.9% use them blowing air. I will agree with use what works the best wether its blowing or sucking air.

The Alpha's are designed to suck air away, I know that much. I'm just wondering how much performance decrease comes from setting it to blow.......not which I should do, but rather the differences between the two.

I know this isnt an Alpha, but I turned the fan around on my fat Vantec socket A cooler to suck instead of blow. Noticed an immediate temp drop.
The fins stayed alot cooler to the touch as well.
:)

There is some controversy to this subject.
One problem is the temp sensor itself, most being mounted
underneath the CPU, and how accurate the reading is.
Also how the air flow created by the fan, sucking or blowing,
can affect the temp sensor....

I have a PEP on my Tbird on a EPOX 8KTA+. I also have a
CompuNurse temp sensor, which I am able to insert the probe
between the CPU and the PEP and have it touching the core on
the side.
The temp readings I get are higher then the ones from the MB sensor
I then tried the fan both ways, several times, and consistantly
got lower temps with the fan blowing.

I know the PEP was designed to suck air, but that is from
the side. I had to modify mine to mount the fan on the top.
It wouldn't fit my motherboard mounted on the side.

This is just my results...FWIW
