ok... i have this new setup w/ a soltek rv75 2 and xp 1900+, yada yada... i know the alpha doesnt fit in there wihout mod so i modded the corner off so that it would fit around the corner... the problem is this...

i first set up my system using my old vantec cooler (i forgot which model... the aluminum one w/ buncha fins)... it runs ok at like 44 c average load... so i fit the alpha on.. using all the plastic washers to ensure no screw/mboard shorts and after setting up the rig... the system totally had bootup problems... it would randomly freeze during windows boot, during windows, sometimes not even post at all... it totally seems to be something wrong w/ the cooler setup...

i dont know whatsup... any suggestions?

is it possibly i havent screwed it on tight enough to make a hard enough contact w/ the cpu?

Do a search on the phorum, quite a few ppl have had problems. There is even a slide show out there for you to watch. You need to use the "search" button as I cant seem to remember the name of the thread.

It is possible that you are using the shouldered washers and really need to use the flat washers. If you are using the shouldered ones, try using the flat ones instead. This seems to be the most common problem with this HS.

There is a milled cut on one side of the face of the heatsink, designed to clear the front raised portion of the plastic cpu socket. It needs to be mounted with that milled cut over the front raised plastic portion of the cpu socket for flush contact with the cpu cap.

It is possible to mount the cooler too far forward, resulting in the cooler cocked at an angle on the cpu. That will result in poor cooling and could result in damaged cpu, both physically and through overheat.

Inspect that closely, and be sure that plastic washers are used properly to prevent grounding/shorting of the through-bolts with mobo circuit traces. Tighten the mounting bolts evenly, just enough that all the springs are somewhat compressed.

Hope this helps!
