I saw this combo over at phamcomputer.com. This adda fan is 16.1 dBA, and only pushes 13.2 cfm. Can I use this to cool my 1.0 athlon? I'm not overclocking, and all I care about is having a quiet computer w/o frying my computer. I seriously doubt this would work, but maybe?

It will prolly work for 1ghz or less but I?m sure it would be running rather warm. Id look for something that is more in range of mid 25-30 dba or something that pushes closer to 20 cfm.

If you have good case ventilation, and possibly duct cool air close to the CPU area then you should be fine. Now it will be a little on the toasty side at full load, but you should definitely be stable.

If the ambient temp of your case is high, forget using that low of a CFM fan. If you have a well thought out airflow pattern you should be fine.

I have a FOP32-1 HS and the Adda Fan, and it cools my Tbird 700 to 51° Celsius under full load. Kinda high, but it's stable.

i advise you not go with the adda fans. I have two of them on my slota athlon cooler. They aren't really that much more quiet than a good 25 dba fan is. they also emit some high pitched whiny noises. I recommend getting a nice sunon 25dba fan or a panaflow 80mm and then getting a 60mm to 80mm adaptor.

Hrmm, I guess my next question is: what are good case temperature ranges? My case usually stays around 35C, but I do plan on adding another exhaust. Also, has anyone else found the adda fans to be whiny or annoying?

35C is really high if your case is in a room that is air conditioned(~25-27C or lower). You will pretty much see a linear relationship in the increase of case temp and CPU temp, meaning for ~5C in case temp, you will see about a 5C increase in CPU temp. Different patterns of airflow might influence this, but this is usually the case.

If you currently have a fan other than the PSU one, make sure the stock grills don't kill flow. Also look towards the front bezel, as many cases require a little "attention" to get any decent amount of air drawn into the case.

An alternative would be about a 25dB fan as others have suggested. I have a 28dB 19CFM Sanyo Denki fan and it is pretty quiet to me, way quieter than 27dB 92mm Panaflo L1A's IMO. I think Sidewinder computers has a listening room to listen to a few different fans. Judging by the pitch you can usually tell if a fan will be annoying or not.

Sidewindercomputer doesnt have any sound clips of an adda fan though. Phamcomputer also has another combo option, using the pal6035 w/ a 18cfm, 24dBAa adda. I'm thinking this might be a safer bet, seeing how my case temps are at 35c. Although, I was looking at the coolermaster site, and noticed that the stock hsf on a 1.0 athlon only pushes around 17cfm at 31dBA.

I have an enlight 7232, so maybe I'll try cutting away the intake and exhaust fan grills to see if that helps my case temps. Guess it's time to borrow my friend's dremel.

That fan would be more than good for a PIII but not really that great for an Atholon. However, with a 1.0 nonoverclocked it should work fine. I really recommend that you look intoa Sanyo Denki 60mm quite output if you can. The best quiet 60mm fan out there.

BTW 35C for a case temp is high. However if your CPU temp is there then I wouldn't worry about it.

Snow, which sanyo denki fan? I'm looking at gizzo's fan page, and it looks like the adda fans can do 18cfm@24dBA or 13cfm@16.1dBA. The closest sanyo denki fans that gizzo lists perform 18.7cfm@28dBA or 12.7cfm@20dBA. In general it looks like the adda have really good cfm/dBA ratios, but maybe they dont perform as well as spec?

why don't you just ask gizzo?....he really knows his fans and will point you in the right direction
