I recently ordered (which I can change if I need to.) The Alpha PAL6035 and some Arctic Silver. I wanna try to get my T-Bird 800 up to 1 GIG, is this guy gonna suffice or should I have orderded the PEP66. I was trying to keep it under $50 WITH the Arctic Silver and with the PAL6035 I got it to $46 and that includes shipping.
Thanks in advance

A 800mhz Tbird at 1Ghz stable is a bit of a long shot. In most cases 950Mhz will be the max stable overclocked speed for that CPU.

Just thought I'd warn ya.

Oh yeah?? I heard quite a few people hittin a gig, but if 950 is the max I could be happy with that too. I mean a 150mhz boost is pretty decent.

For a 1GHz OC, the Alpha should be fine. Just make sure that the HSF is mounted properly. It can easily be mounted so that its not level, so you should make sure that you don't do that.

This is probably just a problem with the older PAL6035 clip, but its possible the the pressure point for the clip is on the edge of the CPU, causing the entire HSF to tilt on that edge. Not only does this pose a hazard in terms of bad cooling, but it might also slightly damage the CPU.

Sure, some will hit 1Ghz, but the majority peak out at 950mhz.
