Is it more effective to set the fan to suck or blow? On a slocket, would it blow hot air onto the memory?

on mine I have blow because otherwise it screws up my airflow and my case temp raises a ton.

Alpha works better sucking than blowing when case temp is not ideal. If ambient temp is cool, alphas can have better performance blowing.
Of course, this was done with my old setup (ambient temp was 80F, case temp 82F)

On mine, it didnt really make a difference either way. Overall it didnt a damn thing for the temp, except 1 degree lower than the retail heatsink. I have a fan next to it blowing air out and one on the other side blowing air across.

Overall, they are not worth the money.

Oh, I realize that I was talking about the Alpha P7125 which is equilvalent to the P3125. It is massive and I guess though the sucking vs. blowing performance differs by only 1-2F, it used to work very well for my overclocked Athlon (gigger) was because it had a huge heatsink and 2 massive yet noisy fans.

I keep seeing people say Alpha says their fans should blow or Alpha says their fans should suck. If one goes to their website http://www.micforg.co.jp/ and hit their FAQ, one of the questions is "Which type of fan heat sink is better, 'expulsion type' or 'induction type'?" In the manual for my PEP it doesn't explicitly say one way or the other but the diagram shows the fan positioned to suck. I have seen people quote Alpha either way. I can't speak for Alpha, but from what I've read is they seem to make recommendations for specific situations.

They basically say it depends on whether you have something else near by producing a lot of heat.

This is my opinion. If something else is near by with a fan producing heat you will want it to blow otherwise it will be sucking up the hot air from the other device. This is not generally the case though. If you have it set to blow and your chipset just has a heatsink and is nearby you will be blowing your hot CPU air onto your chipset hurting your chances of overclocking. So in general you want your Alpha to suck.

Unless you have something already blowing hot air towards your CPU, you probably want it to suck.

will the alpha p3-125 work with a slocket in an asus p3v4x or will i have to get a new alpha cooler?
