What precautions can I take when installing the Alpha 8045... i just read a thread in the overclocking forum in which about 20 of the 30 guys that posted fryed their cpu from wrong mounting of the 8045... and i just bought one.. what a coincidence... anyway, how can i ensure that i do it right and everything is right so i dont fry my chip.. one guy said to put as3 on core then mount hs then take off and see if the as3 is on hs

For me it was a pretty straintfoward installation. Obviously you have to mount it to the CPU while the MB is out of the case, AND MAKE SURE YOU USE THE MOUNTING WASHERS! Just follow the directions and take your time, visually check that the HS and CPU are seated properly to one another... Here also is some directions on the use of AS3... instructions.

Wow that guide is really thorough. I installed mine without that guide and it was pretty easy. Just follow the directions. The washers are very important in providing enough pressure.

get an mcx462 and don't worry about it because it works on every board and is won't ruin your hardware if you tighten it too much (you'll just strip some nylon nuts and you'll have to run to home depot to get more)

I can't imagine anyone having trouble installing an 8045...I installed mine 5 or 6 times, and I've never had any trouble. One thing about that slideshow guide, tho...they were installing an older version of the heatsink, so you don't have to worry about those aluminum spacers anymore.

Just follow the first reply's suggestion and take your time.

Hm... yea, same with the 8045...

One precaution with the 8045, is when you uninstall it. Installing is very straightforward, but you just have to watch out and don't tighten the four screws to the standoffs way too much, because if you do, you'll be unscrewing the standoff from the nylon hex nuts instead of unscrewing the screws from the standoffs. Hope this isn't too confusing.

<< AND MAKE SURE YOU USE THE MOUNTING WASHERS! >>

And make sure you use the right washers as it comes with a couple of different kinds.

Strych9,
Thanks for clarifying my post:

<< AND MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RIGHT MOUNTING WASHERS! >>

is what I intended to say, but had a brain fart as I was typing....
