Alpha PAL 8045 good enough to OC a 2500+ extremely?

Only going to do air cooling. Will my old Alpha do its job? Right now its cooling a 2000+ with a quiet slow fan at 52 degrees. Would a better fan allow this hs to do the job or do I need to upgrade the heatsink?

It all depends. I run a PAL 8045 with a 175 x 13, T-bred B XP-2100. That's 2275 mhz, and it's also higher mhz than a 2500. I run a medium speed fan, and good case flow, never seeing above 43 C. under load. I still have headroom, and bigger fans I can go to, but am happy for now. Unless you just need more heatsink, I feel you shoud get a fan that is at least 42CFM, add a case fan, and try it before you kick out the 40 or so dollars for the latestand greatest Just my .02 cents worth.

Yup, you'll be fine. I'm pushing my tbred @ 2266 on a setup similar to maluckey's and the 8045 does a great job. I took the shroud off too - good for a degree or 2.

I think this is what I'm going to try.

I'm currently running a 2000+ (palamino) on a ECS K7S5A board...can't overclock it.

The processor isn't known to OC much I don't think but I'll try it anyways...

First purchase will be a new motherboard...probably KT400 chipset I'm thinking...then try to OC the 2000+. If successful I'll leave it at that, if not, I'll probably buy a 2500+ or 2600+ and try to OC thoses with the same setup. I'll probably have to upgrade my ram as well.

...I'm also pretty sure that that processor isn't known for being so cool . They run hot, that could play into affect for your 50+ºs

I got hold of a overclocking bios for that MB that works, can't remember where.... do a google.
It's not exactly asus style but there are quite a few oc options.

I'm not stating that this board in general can't overclock...I'm stating this specific board + CPU won't OC together. I've tried the cheapman bios and another (forgot the name of it) but both wouldn't do anything and stay stable. In fact with the different bios, it wasn't even stable at clock speeds.
