ALPHA PAL 6035 Question....

I am about to install my first HSF on a CPU. In the past I have ordered combos. MY HSF has a little copper colored coating over the bottom. Do I need to apply thermal grease or a thermal pad in addition to this? Or do I just clip it on the way I bought it? I am scared I will mess something up.

You don't need any additional thermal solutions, but they can't hurt. I always use thermal grease. You won't mess anything up, just apply a thin layer of grease over the die of your duron/thunderbird and then attach the HS.

There's really nothing to worry about, just try not to add too much... squirt it on a piece of paper or something then dab your finger in it and spread over the die, try not to add too much. Just enough so that you can see it covers the entire die.

Just wanna watch that you don't spread it over the rest of the cpu. If you have trouble putting the HS on, after a few tries you might wanna make sure that the grease hasn't smeared everywhere. If it has, it's not a big deal, just clean it up and start again.

Good luck
