Alpha 8045 = own

I was digging around in my box doing whatever and I must have unplugged my cpu fan accidentally. Came back about a half an hour later and found a BSOD and a burning smell waiting for me. Plugged the fan back in and rebooted real quick to check the temperature in the bios--109 Celcius. Promptly shut her down and aimed a big fan in there for about 20 minutes. Apparently the cpu got a little hot but after about a month and a half she is still working fine. I'm just glad the ALPHA was able to keep the cpu alive without active cooling.

They do own! I've had my 8045 for about a year and a half after I picked it up to quiet down my overclocked tbird (which it cooled passively in a pinch). It's also doing a bang-up job of cooling my Barton. It will follow all of my socket a chips to the grave. 🙂

Time to either get MBM5 and use a shutdown program at a certain temp, and/or check your BIOS for thermal shutdown settings.
