I'm about to change my abit kr7a m/b for an epox 8rad+. This is the first time I have done this so I'm a bit unsure about things, so be gentle with me.
What I need to know is, when I remove the heatsink [ alpha 8045 ]and the chip [amd 1900xp]do I need to replace the thermal grease ,if so what type do you suggest I should use, and is there anything else I should look out for.

regards Ray

Yes, replace the thermal grease. Arctic Silver III is popular around here; it's not the best anymore in terms of thermal transfer. There's something else, like Shin Estu or something like that, which performs like a degree or two better. But it's supposed to be a good bit tougher to apply than the ASIII. It involves mixing and waiting for setup or something; ASIII - I just put a little on the CPU core, and let the heatsink smoosh it to where it's needed.
