Hi,

I've just installed a new heatsink to replace my noisy bog standard Taisol one and it's as noisy as ever. Is there anything I can do to dampen down the jet engines? For instance is it possible to lower the RPMs in the BIOS and if so what is the lowest I can go without risking frying my CPU? (Thunderbird 800). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hey enigmo,

you may want to try picking up a 60-80 mm adapter, so you can use a larger 80 mm fan. you can find a similarly strengthed fan that generates much less noise.

if you do a search on "adapter", i think places have been posted where you can buy one of these.

good luck!

Thanks for the advice, but I don't really want to replace the parts since I've only just bought it and especially because I was told in the beginning that it came with a quiet fan. :(

The instructions say that if you're using it with an Athlon CPU you shouldn't use the pads which affix to the bottom of the heatsink. I did what I was told and left them off, but maybe using these would help dampen down the vibrations?

Why is that CPUs have all sorts of lumpy bits of circuitry on their surface? Surely making them totally flat would ensure better contact with the heatsink and hence promote cooling efficiency.
