Alone in the dark 4, Has anyone tried it yet?

Go here and you can pay $5.00 to play it for 2 days. They also give you a coupon for $5.00 off if you buy the game later.

I've played it. It looks great but the mouse/fire interface is not simple enough for me 😉 When something jumps out at me I start mashing buttons and my guy looks like he is doing some strange dance. I never tried remapping controls but I don't think that will help. The way it is now you have to hold down one mouse button to draw and the other button to fire.

seems a bit buggy to me, i got a key, came to a door, hit the I button to open up the inventory, and it kicked me back to desktop... haven't had a chance to try it again, emperor battle for dune and startopia have been taking up too much time.

The graphics are nice, resolution is at 640x480 and can't be changed. Some parts of the game are too dark, turning up the brightness on your monitor doesn't help. Graphics 8 out of 10.

The music stinks, they try to scare you with screams(I hate screams, reminds me of all that screaming in the movie "scream" gives me a headache) gun shots and a few howls, these effects have been done to death! Music 4 out of 10 (hint: set the music volume in the game to the lowest, and the music will be 10 out of 10)

Even though this series is older than the resident evil series, you can tell which ideas they borrowed from resident evil. The zombies look like the resident evil ones, except they have no face and a month on their chest, but they wear the same blue levis jeans of course, also everything you kill dissappears with a flash or shadow effect, so there's hardly any or no blood stain on the floor, so far, only the zombies let out blood when you shoot them and even then, the blood just disappears in the air. Innovation 5 out of 10

the controls are very easy to use, if you have the original sidewinder and played resident evil 2 with it, the controls are very similiar to that. The only negative is the free look flashlight control, it moves to fast and always goes back to center view. 7 out of 10.

The replay value isn't there, I'm not done playing yet and whenever I stop playing for a day and play emperor:battle for dune, trying to continue where I left off takes me awhile to get back into the mood of it. Once I beat this, I know I won't play it again. Replay 3 out of 10.

Resident evil 2 was the 1st type of horror game I played and it was scary at part where they had a few surprises hiding everywhere, I replayed that game many times. This game has scared me once yet, good graphics, controls with average music, and hardly any innovations and no replay. I can't recommend this game, doing so would be wrong, to you, me, and the american people. If you never played resident evil 2 and had a choice between this and resident evil 2, RE 2 wins by a volcano slide, RE 2 costs a lot less, and has a better storyline and the voice acting really stinks for alone in the dark 4, not even the slightest bit convincing. If you buy alone in the dark 4, you will be crying alone in the dark for buying it!

Thanks RayEarth, that was quite a review. Undying was my first and only horror game, but it was so good I was looking forward to Alone in the dark.
Now I may keep looking for that next game.

resolution is at 640x480 and can't be changed

Thanks for the heads up- I was thinking of getting this game but I absolutley hate it when I cant change the resolution & I am stuck with 640X480 or 800X600. Dominion Wars is like this as well.

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it uses OpenGL because during the installation it trys to install the OpenGL software drivers. Right now I have no games I can think of that are worth buying, even emperor:battle for dune got boring after you beat the game with one of the three houses. If I didn't sell resident evil 2 awhile ago, I would play it for fun now.

Yeay, I can play it w/o it hanging {g} Must it be 3 CDs.. Argh... Gee.. RE2 is REALLY old isn't it?

RayEarth, did you play any of the earlier Alone in the Darks? I am trying to find out if someone knows how close / accurate they are to the originals. I don't really care if they arn't like Resident Evil series - since the originals were way better than the RE series IMO.

Resident Evil 2 was probably a 1997 or 98 game when they made it for PC. I'm not sure how close it is to the original storyline, since I never played the previous alone in the dark series but all I can say is that the current one is VERY similiar to Resident evil in gameplay.
