So I've been putting my resume out on the nets.

This morning I get a call from someone, he says he works for a citigroup company and is wondering if I would be interested in an interview.

We chit chat for a while and I finally get the address.

Primerica Financial Services sounds like it would be vaguely similar to Ameriprise.

Sure enough google tells me they are a MLM company and not a company I would work for.

I had to call this guy back and tell him to go fvck himself.

Just an FYI for those being contacted by them.

I got the same a couple years ago. I did not bother to show up to the informational meeting...I gather that happens a lot.

then 9/11 happened

i lost a lot of money and the whole ordeal kind of turned me off to the whole thing.

I wouldn't ever consider doing any MLM, but it's not a scam. If you work hard at it like you would any job, you can be successful with it.

it does have scammy elements - paying up front for their license course for one, and another thing was they refused to answer any questions about when we could expect to see a paycheck.

went to one of their recruiting sessions when i was job hunting after college. The fact that they make u fill out 3 people's contact info tells you how scammy the place is. I ended up making up fictional characters as my contact info. Anyways, I didnt even sit thru the entire meeting...was utter BS.

Fast forward 3 yrs and I hear that one of my college buddies is doing primerica as a part time gig. I actually found out when he called me up out of the blue after having no contact for 3 yrs. As soon as I heard "Primerica" I told him I know what they're about and Im not interested in it. Even tried to get him off this thing. But it's his life.

That was 2 yrs ago. I recently spoke with that guy again and asked him how his Primerica business is going. I dont know whether he was telling the truth or not, but he said he was making $1K a month doing about 10hrs a week. Either he wanted to save face and was making up shit, or Primerica can work if you put the time in.

MLM is one of the worst things to come to American Commerce. Those jerks have saturated every mall I go to with those carts in the center of the halls where people constantly pester you to try their product and talk to you. It didn't always used to be that way. Almost every one of those things is related to an MLM and they all work off commission.

That's just $25/hour, which is $50k/year. Not bad as a part-time income, but hardly monumental.

Yeah they suckered me into one of their meetings. I even called first to verify that they were hiring for positions that fit my qualifications (software engineer), and they said they were. They meant that they would basically take anyone with any qualifications, not that the position would fit the qualifications... I was pissed that I wasted a day down in Philly going to that damn meeting.
