Almost passed out at the gym.

Went to the gym today, weight training. Was almost done doing legs, then I felt exceedingly sick. I felt either that I was going to vomit or pass out. Went to front desk told them to call the ambulance. By the time they got there, I felt better and declined to go to hospital. When the they took blood pressure it turned out to be a bit low, and they got there like 15 mins after the call my heart rate was 110 bpm. I had two sandwiches an hour before working out. Could it be I overworked?

You had them call an abulance?!

my thoughts too... Sit down and drink some water.... If you passout/have heart attack blah blah blah they'll call the abulance for you.

How long have you been going to the gym? 5 minutes?

a hard leg workout can really take a toll on your body. they use a LOT of your energy 🙂 (squats/leg press).. you ate so thats not the problem.. but what about water? you should make sure to drink 2 large glasses of water before you workout, you don't want to work out unless you're hydrated.

edit; if that happens just take deep breaths.. drink some water and sit down for a minute.. you'll feel better after a few minutes

he took the step most people don't even take.. give him some slack 🙂

You just overworked yourself.

I hope you don't have to pay the ambulance bill, they can be over 1000$.

I've worked out for 4 years now. Never happened to me. Although sometimes I have been getting a bit sick after working out for 2 months now. 2 Months ago i started High intensity weight training...i do every muscle group on one day, one exercise on each muscle (strip set) to failure...about 45mins a day, 3 times a week, legs i do last as they leave me exhausted. I drank water before the gym, and i drink water during my workout.

I had BAAAD chest pains when i was doing cardio tonight.... 2 minutes later i let out a HUGE BURP and felt a whole hell of alot better.. 🙂

i get slightly nauseous when i do squats in the cage. its normal, just remember, the higher the nauseous level, the better the workout. =)

If they took your BP 15 min after you felt that way, and it was low in combination with a high heart rate (110), you were probably dehydrated. Getting the feeling like you are going to pass out and/or vomit is a sign of that as well. Did they check your blood sugar?

They didn't check my blood sugar, although i was repeatedly asked whether or not i'm diabetic, which i'm not.

Yea, like eli says I think you've just overworked yourself, sit down and drink water does the trick. Must admit I did snigger when seeing the thread title coming from a computer site, just sounded like it was your first time 🙂

HOw many reps/sets did you do? How much do u weigh? How much weight were your reps/sets? Were u drinking water during your workout?

you need to develope your cardiovascular before you start weights and intensive gym work.
I agree. My cardio sucks ass, which is why I didn't get very far weight lifting. 😛

*is lazy*

Maybe you're pregnant. 😉

Bah, i get that almost everytime i do legs!!! I'm serious too. I've actually puked on a few occasions.

If you're worried about it give your doctor a call, they may do a stress test on you (aka work you to the point of exhaustion to monitor what happens).

I think it's normal... almost everybody i've ever known who's done a hard workout of legs, feel the same way. I think it's because the legs are such huge muscle groups, taht when you really work on them, they fill up with so much blood that the rest of your body, especially your head, is temporarily short on blood, so you get dizzy and nausea.
