(Almost) Paid off the truck after 5 long years! Hurrah!

Well, it's almost paid off. 3 more months and it's mine. No more truck payment!!! Lots of extra money per month in my pocket! 😀

But...the new model XYZ from Blastolene Trucks is so snazzy...I want one, but don't want the 5 years of payments!

Those of you that've paid off a vehicle: How the hell do you keep from buying a new one? I'm SO itchy...........

/twitching nervously...surfing thru XYZ website......

Knowing that you can now fearlessly strap on loads of warranty-voiding aftermarket parts without worrying about ruining a new car?

Come on ... lift that thing up on some three-foot Rice Crusher tires with a big honkin' cow plow in the front. 😀

Funny you should say that. 😀 I have some plans for said truck. Possibly another 2" of lift. Gonna stick with the 33" tires; good size for general all around off roading and pavement pounding.

A big honkin' cow plow for the front is a definite though, along with the huge, 50-lb rock sliders I bought but never got welded on. 😀

I have a 60 month loan as well, and my car will be paid off in another year and I am already so excited. That will free up ~$465 for me every month I can blow - I mean invest wisely - on other things!

I too have found myself thinking about my next vehicle, but I told myself I must drive this one for no less than a year so I can pay down some of my other debt.

That is my motivation exactly, for NOT getting another vehicle. But you know how it goes...you say no, no, no and then one day your driving a new vehicle home all pissed off at yourself but happy as a clam.

I must be strong. The Force of Paying Bills is strong within me.

Yeah right. 😛

Now throw in a "MichaelD-Grade Stereo System" and you're set to go. 🙂

LMAO! M4H for President!

I resisted the urge by vowing I will never again have a car payment and I will save that money so when I need another car, I can pay cash. It's been eight years without a car payment.

All that time you are socking away what used to be car payments, you're earning interest instead of paying. You have no car payment to drag down your credit score. You can save on insurance because you don't need all that coverage. You don't have to worry about your new car being stolen. You don't cry about every little ding and scratch. If you need a repair, you have the money saved and it isn't a crisis.

But if you don't have the intestinal fortitude to stick it out, then be a payment slave. Just go into the dealer, say "What can I get for $400 a month?" and bend over.

Hope that's a little motivation for you! 😉

I concur. I have never had a car payment in my life. I have bought all cars with cash and I keep them so long that I have plenty of time to save up much more than I need for my next car. The best approach to vehicles is to curb your need for NEW and buy a car that is 2 years old with 20K miles on it and let someone else take the HUGE depreciation hit on the vehicle. If you follow this strategy you can drive nice cars your entire life and save TONS of money.

I still have 40+ payments left on my truck...so I have a long way to go...but I don't plan on purchasing another vehicle for a LONG time god willing. I've got a lot of other things I'd like to be spending my money on at this point in my life.

If I do get an itch...it will most likely be to buy a boat or something along those lines.

I'm pretty sure my warranty will be gone before I pay the car off. What fun is it if you don't mod your new car?

My car is paid off. Bought it used. I think I will have stick with my civic for a while (breaksdown, even then, probably an engine swap will suffice) =(. Don't feel like adding to my college loans.

Visions of Mike at the dealer:

:Q <--sans Vaseline

Uh yeah, that's motivation enough! 😀

I've never been lucky enough to actually buy a car outright, and I've been too chicken to buy used in the past years b/c I'm afraid of having no warranty. The transmission died on my truck (um...I helped it along...a little 😀) and it was covered under warranty. A 6K repair cost me nada. I felt like I got back at the man!

I must admit; I sure have better things to do with $450/mo than give it away to a bank to pay for the car. I can give it away to the bank to pay for credit cards.

So, no new truck for me.

Thanks, Kranky.
