Was the buyer's shipping address confirmed by Paypal?

Yes it was.

That's ridiculous then. You should have been covered under the seller's protection policy if you would have shipped to the confirmed address. There's no way Paypal should have been able to take the money out of your account.

So how the hell does that work? When adding a credit card to a Paypal account you need to verify the billing address of the credit card. AFAIK the verified billing address of the credit card becomes your confirmed shipping address.

This kind of pisses me off. Crap like this could happen to anyone selling something on Ebay at any time. Even if you follow Paypal's seller's protection policy (which you did) you could get hosed.

I don't sell many big items on Ebay because of sh%$ like this. :|:|:|:|

Since it is a confirm address, I would guess it was a buyer's remorse.

Paypal's history is full of stories like this. Just checkout PayPal sucks. They operate like a bank but skirt around all regulations governing the banking industry.

Good for you. eBay is a sinking ship. I don't touch it anymore.

only for people who have clue what they're doing.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Did you mean to say "who have no clue"? I know what I am doing but whenever I search for something it seems that too many of the listings are either knock-offs trying to pass as the real thing or they have outragous shipping and handling charges added on.

I know how to aviod a scam. I just have no interest in wading through the crap to get to what is left of the honest buyers and sellers.

I think he's saying that a lot of people still use eBay without any problems at all. It vastly depends on what you are dealing in. For example, I do a lot of buying and selling sports cards on eBay. Due to the specific nature of the collectible and the knowledge level of those in the hobby, it makes it tough for scammers to wedge their way into that market.

I'm no expert on scammers but I would hypothesize that mass-produced and mass-desired goods such as electronics and tech gear would, by their nature, be easier to fake and counterfeit.

Also, I really don't know how people can deal with some buyers / sellers on eBay. The feedback / join date / ID history system that is in place makes it possible to somewhat ID the person on the other end of the deal somewhat effectively. When selling, you can specify the minimum feedback score, etc. When buying, you only buy from reputable sellers.

Maybe I'm a simpleton or maybe what I deal with makes it hard for me to screw up... but I still enjoy the benefits of eBay.

That's what I initially thought...but to go as far as reporting your credit card stolen? Seems like a lot of work when he could have just received the phone he bought and resold it.

mzkhadir - What was the buyer's feedback rating?

Feedback rating was 1 for an item bought/sold in 2004.
