(Almost) got nailed by CHP =(

Well, actually my uncle almost got nailed by one. My uncle and I were driving from his place in Redding, CA down the 5 to a car show in Sacramento where he planned on entering his 1970 LS6 Chevelle convertible in a car show.

California has thousands of miles of scenic highway, the stretch of I-5 between Redding and Sacramento is not one of them. It's long, straight and boring so we were hauling ass. In the small town of Corning, just south of Red Bluff, I spotted a police car on an on-ramp. I told my uncle to slow down but a Dodge Ram 3500 pulling a trailer and Chevelle don't exactly brake quickly. We were screwed. My uncle and I were a little puzzled because we saw the red light flashing but at the same time we saw the unmistakable glare of HID headlights. Well, turns out it was an S2000!

I asked the officer about the car. He said they just started using them this week. The cars in service are pretty much stock. The service version differs from the street version with an upgraded alternator, a reinforced front sub frame and bumper for executing the P.I.T. (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver radio equipment, shotgun, lights and of course the paint scheme and blacked out wheels. The officer said he isn't a big fan of sports cars, but it beats the hell out of a Crown Victoria.

He let us off with a warning and told us to slow it down. Before we took off, I asked if I could snap some shots with my camera phone and he said it would be alright.

S2000 CHP car... awesome. They've got some really forward thinkers in Cali.

My company here in NY wouldn't even dream of using an import for their fleet of vehicles.

nice though 🙂

Actually no... The St. Tammany Parish Sherriff's Office in Louisiana (north of New Orleans - across Lake Ponchartrain) had a Corvette with T-Tops - but the motor pool put a light bar across the tops so they couldn't open anyway. They used it primarily for DARE and other community outreach programs. FYI, it was seized for drugs so no they didn't go buy it. I-12 from Slidell to Baton Rouge is a shortcut that goes around New Orleans for the Texas to Florida drug route. We'd always see cars on the side of the road being ripped apart by either the LSP or STPSO.

Now that's a bad ass cop car.

the CHP is driving convertibles now?? WHY ARE THEY COMPLAINING THAT THEY DONT HAVE ENOUGH FVCKING MONEY!!!?!?!?!

I got a ticket for changing lanes without signalling. No way a California cop let's a guy "hauling ass" while towing a heavy object off with a warning.
