I was driving home.. in somewhat stop and go traffic, and my phone rang. I looked down to get it out of my pocket, and when I looked back up I was about to collide with a RAV4!! I came within inches! Damn cell phones. This was one of the few times I actually had it with me and it almost got me killed (well not really but you get the point).

Too close!

I either have mine in a belt pouch or on a holder mounted on the dash. I never need to look down.

Glad you are OK...:Q

Never been to NYC but I know what you mean. Its the small minority of the population that screws it up for the rest of us.

Thanks.

Like I said, I don't carry around my phone usually, so I'm not used to getting it out while driving. Plus, I'm wearing some kind of activewear, with the pockets on the leg. It was for less than a second anyway, not like I was fumbling.

Hands Free is definitely the way to go.. I dunno about the US, but in Canada I think I heard it's law to use hands free if you're gonna talk and drive. For that very reason. :D

When driving, concentrate on driving.

Eventually all car communication will be hands free but until that time please act responsibly and look out for your fellow man (and woman). He (and she) will appreciate it.

Guadalupe. I don't know if she was hot. I didn't see her. I guess her rear window was dirty, and/or I didn't care.

Um, name 1 person who even obeys that law. You should drive around at 10-11AM and see all these women in their SUVs and Mini-Vans yacking away at each other. I just use the speakerphone add-on for my V60 when I'm driving, much more convienant.

Amature. I can type text messages on my phone one handed while driving, without looking.

I do.

Well, truthfully more often than not I don't use the hand free.

I got into an accident because I pulled over to talk on a cell phone. :(

I was in my work van. Finished talking, went to pull out of the parking lot, scraped the side of my van on a 3 ft concrete pole that was at an angle sticking out. If I had continued to talk while driving, I wouldn't have done that.

I do. I got pulled over for talking on the phone. Now I use the built-in speakerphone in my Nextel I90.

Actually, you got in that accident because you suck at driving.

I helped put a neck brace on someone today who was not as lucky.

My long ass rant.

Don't use your cell while driving. Pull over. It takes, what? 2 minutes out of your day? I guarantee if you were a second later, it would have been quite a bit more than a minute or 2.

if it's in my pocket, i don't answer it. too risky to fish it out. i try to remember to take it out and put it on the dash when i get in the car. but if i forget and someone calls, tough luck, they can leave a message.

Yes cell phones + driving = bad. Of course, if you drive a manual, you have to pay attention, and every few seconds stop talking to shift. It's great for getting people to stop talking to you. *shift* "what now? I was shifting" *shift* "eh?" *shift* *hang up*.
