0 calloffs here, out of about 50 people.

How noble of you to also post using your company's resources while at work. Elitism cracks me up.
Some of us do have breaks and lunches too, during which time computer access may be available.

After thinking about it for a little while, I figured 1/2 the workers in the US would be calling in with all kinds of excuses.

Someone has to go to work and pay their taxes to support people on welfare. So I decided to pick up the slack.

Crawl your butt back in the bed, and sleep comfortably knowing someone got up the day after the super bowl and went to work.

You're welcome.

Calling in sick occasionally doesn't hurt the economy. Employers who provide paid sick leave incorporate that leave into their cost of hiring someone. If I were to call in sick when I'm not actually sick, I'd feel a bit guilty but I wouldn't feel like I'm cheating my employer out of money. If I use a sick day now it's just one less sick day I can use later. And I'm getting paid the same either way, so I contribute the same taxes as I would have otherwise.

Employees who don't have paid sick leave will still sometimes call in sick even if they're not, in which case they'll miss out on some money for themselves but one of their coworkers will often pick up the hours and get that money. Either way, income is being distributed and taxes are being paid on that income. The employer loses no productivity and spends no more money than they would have otherwise.

The only way calling in sick can actually hurt a company is if a ton of people do it all at once and actually cause a business to lose productivity. As it is, take any medium to large business and I'd be surprised if you don't have at least one person missing work on any given day. Most businesses are run well enough that a couple people missing work doesn't significantly effect their productivity for that day.

This is a troll thread, I'll give you a 2/10 because I responded and so did a bunch of other people.

My wife called in sick today... but she has a cushy union teaching job with about 20 sick days a year. Must be nice.

Everyday you call in sick, is a day closer some welfare mooch is to getting a real job.

Unemployment is high enough. We do not need more people looking for jobs.

How many hours did you work today? For every hour you work I'm going to donate $1 to Planned Parenthood with the explicit instruction that the money must be used to encourage and pay for abortions.

When you go to work, I want you to think about all the babies you're killing.

7 or 8 years ago I woke up the day after the superbowl for work and puked into my nostrils. I ended up taking the day off. That was the last time I ever drank myself sick the next day.

Last night I had 3 beers.

AFAIK, not a single teacher called in sick today in my district. Your premise must simply be based upon a cultural difference between my area & your area. We're hard workers around here. You guys apparently look for any excuse to slack off? Way to reinforce a northern stereotype of people in Texas.

Wow you showed up to work on a day you were supposed to show up to work, then went to the forums to post. You sound like such an amazing employee!

Holy dog shit. Texas? Only steers and queers come from Texas, Private Cowboy. And you don't look much like a steer to me so that kinda narrows it down. Do you suck dicks?

Additionally, he "showed up" today and has spent most of his time trolling P&N regarding Cynthia Nixon's recent comments.

I understand what you're trying to do with this thread, but don't sink to his level please.

We would need another thread to discuss that topic.

Who gets to determine if someone is a slacker? You, me, someone else?

If you do not go to work everyday, commit your life to your job, work away the best years of your life, your a slacker?

Food for thought - Benjamin Franklin called people who took off on monday and friday, the followers of Saint Monday and the followers of Saint Friday.

I used to be committed to my employers, sometimes working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for 6 weeks at a time, get 2 days off, work another month of 7/12s. But after being cast to the curb like a piece of trash a couple of times, screw dedication and loyalty.

A few weeks ago I was reading some interview tips. One tip was that when you are offered the job, do not say you can start any sooner then 2 weeks. This means you will not give your current employer 2 weeks notice. Is your employer going to give you 2 weeks notice before you are laid off or fired, probably not. Respect has to go both ways.

For the last time it's "you're"!

At least try to pretend like you got through 8th grade!

So, you have no devotion to your employer, yet you show up on post-Superbowl Monday, create a stupid-ass thread about it, and then proceed to spend all day trolling us?

Hi, I'm logic; I don't think we've met.
