Almost 3 weeks since FIOS was put in my house.

it isn't that much better than comcast cable was and for somethings it's decisively worse. for eg. when i log in remotely the remote desktop is way more sluggish than it used to be with comcast, not sure why, latency issues i think. it was much much better with comcast, so much so, i might go back to comcast, although i think i have a one year contract with verizon.

in my mind, fios is not the clear winner in the broadband wars. comcast seems to hold it's own.

i just did a speakeasy speed test from my wireless laptop and i get 8mb / sec down and 1.8 mb / sec up.

do a ping -n 100 www.yahoo.com in the command prompt and see what your average reply is in ms..

I doubt there'd be any reason that FIOS should have high latency except if they're trying to work out routing problems.

Can anyone interpret this as normal or slow?

For the love of god someone please tell me I am not still stuck with comcast!!

you have to look at the hops though. Verizon can't controll latency outside its own network. What was the highest ping while still on verizon's network.

that's GOOD.

1.8mbps upstream with average ping to yahoo of 22.. with none higher than 100 is pretty damn good.

I have a decent connection and my average is 40ms.. and I game with no lag on this connection.

Yeah that's worse than what I get with comcast, especially the highest value:

Ping statistics for 209.131.36.158:
Packets: Sent = 50, Received = 50, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 14ms, Maximum = 31ms, Average = 17ms

I get ~1050 KB/s download with Comcast and 90-100 KB/s upload.

I have FIOS also. I get the advertised 15 down and about 1.6 up. Downloads are fast, browsing is fast, online gaming is fast. I have ZERO complaints. (I also have Sunrockey VOIP which is excellente).

Go ahead and run the TCP/IP Optimizer at www.speedguide.net. It might help you out.
