I just got a V3c but I seen it only comes with the power adapter. Since it has a mini-USB jack, is there some data cable I can use to connect with my PC? I read that the Alltel versions don't have the crappy and locked Verizon firmware, and that you can transfer over your own ringtones and whatnot (avoid having to buy that retarded Axcess crap). Is this possible?

Cool site. Seems people want to flash their Verizon firmware to Alltel when possible. And I found the thread that says if you got a digital camera to just use the USB cable. My digicam uses a very mini USB jack to the phone, but my bro has a Canon that has the same cable needed for this phone! Sweet, saves me $10+!

So maybe I won't have to do much modifications? I just want to be able to transfer custom or downloaded skins and ringtones to my phone so I don't gotta buy them. I wish it had a headphone jack... though it only has 30mb a memory maybe if I cleared out all the loaded crap on there I could fit an album worth of mp3s in lower quality. Or maybe it just doesn't have the capabilities to be an mp3 player even if you had a bluetooth headset.

Damn, my bro's digicam is probably only USB1.1.. I'm reading that it needs to be USB2.0 to work reliably.

I installed Mobile Phone Tools and it takes several minutes to setup the phone, then when it loads the phone screen it sits at initializing forever. I'm think thats because I'm using the USB 1.1 cable... but I don't wanna go out and buy a USB 2.0 cable if something else is wrong. Plus it doesn't help that there are no Fry's or anything like that around here, which I hear have the cable I need for something like $3. At Walmart and other stores they fvck you by charging $15-20 for a Belkin mini USB to USB A cable... So I'm not sure where I can pick one up for a reasonable price. Ebay has them for $10-15, but I think they want to get people to buy "special" ones even though any generic cable will work.

MobilEdit seems okay but only has support for GSM phones.

What's this p2k plugin about? Seems to be a simple file transfer.

Has anyone been able to get MPT or the p2k plugin working with a USB1.1 cable? Out of the 3 digital cameras in my house, none have the standard mini USB to USBA in USB2 form.

I don't wanna have to buy one if that isn't the problem. I'm not worried about speed or anything just if I could browse a directory or whatnot on my phone I'd know I'd be set once I got a USB2 cable.

The V3c with the "locked Verizon firmware" simply plugs into a mini USB cable and copies ringtones, MP3s and any other files you care to tote around, without MPT at all. Maybe you better call Alltel and ask them what your problem is.

Oops, I take that back. If you use the bluetooth function, it will work with your bluetooth adapter's file transfer software, but not Windows Explorer. Sorry!
