Allstate sucks for Auto insurance

I have combined home and auto insurance through Allstate and have been doing business with them since 2001. About 2.5 years ago I removed my now 20 year old 2001 Toyota Tundra SR5 Access Cab 2WD pickup because the premiums kept going up faster than those on the two BMWs combined. Yesterday I removed the oldest BMW (2004 3251) because I sold it and the premiums on the two BMWs were $825/$950 for the 325/335. After canceling the insurance on the now sold and de-registered BMW 325 the premium for the BMW 335 jumped $950/year --> $1400/year. That is $550/year more than Progressive is charging me for the same coverage on a brand new $70K Tesla Model 3 Performance I am about to take delivery on. The increase amounts to a 47% jump in premium and the home+auto is now more than before yesterday's cancellation. BTW, my homeowner's policy also jumped 25% after this action.

Anyone else have this kind of good customer bad customer service experience with Allstate?

Yep but state farm. Saved $800/yr on the house/2 cars when I went to an independent agent and shopped around. Have changed the company truck insurance 3 times in the last 5 years or so, currently with progressive.

We dropped Allstate this year after being with them since around 2005.

Nothing really bad to say about them except one time we had an ice storm come through and a large tree branch fell on our AC unit and damaged the exterior. Well it was to cold outside to turn on the AC without potentially causing damage so I called the local office and let them know what happened so in the summer if I had to make a claim they had a record of it.

The woman on the phone got kinda huffy with me and said "Well you know if you put in a claim your insurance is going to go up." That made me kind of think to myself then WTF is the point of having insurance?

Anyway, we switched to Statefarm this year for auto and home because the cost was considerably cheaper.

State Farm since about 2003 for me, have had rate decreases the last three years. Could I find cheaper? Yes, but the claims I have had were zero hassle and quickly handled so I am fairly happy.

Had Allstate on and off over the years for a renters policy, and one year with an auto + rental. Never had a problem, but when I moved up to MA from NY, I switched to GEICO and saved nearly $500/year.

I have a good friend that just got dropped on car insurance because he was hit and then had the wheels stolen, all in the same week, all less than a month after buying a new car.

Insurance is a racket.

The only way you save money is shopping around. Most have cheap rates to bring over new customers to get you there. Then start raising them year over year hoping you are too lazy to leave.

State Farm did treat me well, got a full roof replacement and my rates didn't change noticeably.
I'm with USAA now, so far, so good.
