Bush so far approves the majority of Clinton's proposed increased "appliance" efficiency standards.

But...

<< Energy Department officials still are reviewing proposed new efficiency standards for new home central air conditioners and heat pumps. >>

At least he's on the correct path so far on this particular issue.

I think that Pres. Bush is doing it the right way.

Instead of blindly throwing money at the problem, a good scientific analysis of the cost vs. benefits ratio is necessary.

The US can only afford to spend X amount of dollars for energy conservation and or pollution control before it destroys the economy.

It makes sense to use those resources carefully and wisely.

From a economic point of view, the idea that we can drill our way out of our current dependency on foriegn energy is ludicrous. We know that we must also develop other energy sources, renewable or otherwise, that are non-fossil fuel based, as well as work for less energy consumption.

From a political point of view, its wrong for the president to focus solely on solutions that only a minority of the country supports. People want more conservation, despite the popularity of SUV's. People want a more balanced energy policy. Bush has been blatently single-minded so far...I hope these recent measures described above are a sign of things to come.
