So, my 8 yr old was assigned a weekly chore. if he pickups the family room and Vacuums it every sunday for 4 sundays, he gets $20.00.

is that too much? my wife thinks so.

i think it's just right.

curious what other parents are giving their kids.

Depends. Is the mess in the family room his? How big is the room? Is that $20 a week or month? Unless it's a giant room and $20 a month that's way too much.

I also never got an allowance. I think if a kid can realize how hard it is to make money (right now, the job seems too easy), then he'll know not to blow the cash.

$50 is WAY too much. That's $650 a year! $50/month means he can buy an Xbox, PS2, Gamecube and an iPod in one year. WTH will he expect for Xmas? Perhaps if you take away three-quarters and say it's for taxes and rent... hahaha.

I'm curious to know what type of financial situation some of these ATOT advice givers are in.

Dishes, washing parents cars, dusting, mowing & trimming were my basic weekly chores. I think I got $5 a week if that.

I'm against paying kids to do things that they should be doing anyway.

Just give him a few dollars here and there when he needs it.
