Allow access to sidebar content elsewhere

Call me a moron, but I completely forgot I had a sidebar. And I rarely receive private messages, so I never thought much about it. But over the past month, I've sent some PMs and expected some replies. I always figured I'd receive a notification while browsing or in the "my forums" area or that I could at least find a link to check my PMs if I desired to do so, but I could find nothing. I figured nobody had replied. But today I read a post that mentioned seeing PMs in your sidebar and realized that I had collapsed my sidebar a long time ago. I expanded the sidebar and found replies to all of my PMs and also a link to my PM archive.

Here is my suggestion: Make sure users can access all of the sidebar content somewhere outside of the sidebar. I can access Search and my Favorites easily enough, so by "all content", I mean Private Messages - I think placing a link to my Inbox on the "my forums" page would solve this nicely. Also, I would appreciate having a link notification on the "my forums" page or somewhere else to any recent PMs I've received.
