AllofMP3.com

allofmp3.com has always worked extremely well for me. but then again i've never tried to preview a song, it's so cheap to download the whole thing anyways

Theres no proof either way 100%, that said the RIAA has to know about it by noiw and if there was a way for them to legally bust people by now they would have which leads me to beleive they cant do anything to stop you.

It is totally legal under Russian law. However, the people in the US don't live under Russian law. We deal with US copyright laws so for US citizens, it is illegal.

Take for instance, if you went to Amsterdam and purchased pot over there. It is totally legal. However the moment you bring it into the US, it is illegal.

Everything I've read claims most of the money goes to ROMS, which in turns pays most of the money in royalties to the aritists. ROMS oversees Russia sort of like the ASCAP or RIAA. The site is legal in Russia, but it may not be leagal in all countries to download music. As of now, I don't believe there are laws against it's use. I'm sure people are trying to block it, but I don't believe they've been successfull yet.

Currently, it's a grey area at best.

But if you were to go to Amsterdam and purchase a music CD and bring it back to the US, it would remain perfectly legal.

Not if it breaks US copyright law.

Of course this is my understand from law classes in college. I am by no means an expert.

So to make it perfectly legal, we just need a computer in Russia which we will use to buy all the songs from AllofMp3.com, then transfer them to our computers without copying them.

Previewing songs has been slow from day one.

Downloading them has always been fast though; 100k/sec average for me.

Oh yeah, techinally, buying pot in Amsterdam is illegal. They are also starting to try a program where you must be a Netherland citizen to purchase. Test runs are either going right now or starting soon in a small town just off the border.

Does US Copyright law prohibit you from possessing copies of copyrighted material, or does it only prohibit you from making them? And I'll mention that if the site is in fact complying with Russian laws, then you're not even importing illegally copied music, you're importing legally copied music.

as far as i understand it, allofmp3 falls under US import laws and the RIAA is trying to fight it now. but until they win i say fvck them.

That is it, i am emailing the RIAA (from my spoof email) and asking them about it being legal to download from allofmp3.com in the US.

You can't possess material that violates copyrights. It is no different than stolen material. Say your mom goes on Ebay and buys a computer which is stolen. Then she gives it to you. You didn't buy it, however if the police find out that you have stolen merchandise then you are going to get in some trouble. The difference is that the police aren't going to push the issue because you did it unknowingly.

Just because you get something without technically breaking the law doesn't mean you are exempt from the law.
